The first week is usually what people want to understand before they walk in.
Where to park. What to wear. Whether a little kid will feel safe. What the class is actually like.
Here is how we do it at 6913 Camp Bowie Blvd #133.
Parking and the door
We are Suite 133. Come a few minutes early so no one feels rushed. Ask for Erin when you come in. She will take good care of you and get your child to the right mat. You do not have to figure the building out on your own.
What they wear.
A t-shirt and shorts is enough. No zippers and no big pockets. They do not need a gi for the first class. If they already have one, they are welcome to wear it. Bare feet on the mat.
Which class.
• Littles 4–6: a shorter class with more games, standing up, and following directions.
• Kids 5–13: still taught for beginners. We work on how to fall, how to move, and how to listen. They are not put with the adult class.
If you are not sure which one fits, call 817-781-4243 and tell us the age. We will place them in the right room.
What the first class actually is
It is not a fight.
A coach shows a simple movement. The kids try it. We keep them busy so they are not standing still and getting nervous. We watch the room and stop anything that does not look safe. They will probably be tired. That is normal. They should not leave scared.
What I tell a parent who is a little nervous
A lot of our kids were quiet the first day. The ones who grow here are the ones who come back the second and third time. One class is just an introduction. It does not decide the whole story.
What I tell the kid
Listen, try, and be a good partner. That is the job the first week.
